Platos térmicos... Hot water plates

Para esas madres preocupadas por mantener tibia la papilla de sus bebés, en épocas en que no había microondas existían estos prácticos platos térmicos

For those mothers worried about keeping warm their babies food, at times when there were no microwave ovens, these plates were a great option

En realidad eran los platos hondos de loza o porcelana a los que se les agregaba una base de aluminio o acero inoxidable fabricada acá, que se llenaba de agua caliente

They were actually the bowls of pottery or porcelain - from our industry or imported- fixed to a steel or aluminum base that allows hot water to be poured inside 

Al empezar mi colección pensé en dejar éstos afuera ya que ocupan mucho lugar pero no pude evitar que se fueran juntando algunos

When I began my collection I decided to leave them out because they occupy much space but I could not resist gathering some of them

Las bases generalmente son plateadas

Metal bases are usually silver

aunque también hay fucsias y azules

allthoug there are also some fuchsia and blue

estos platos tienen dos manijas del mismo metal

these dishes have two metal handles

Algunos con una imagen en el centro

Some of them have an image in the center

Otros con varias ilustraciones

Others with several illustrations

Y algunos adelantando también los comentarios de los niños

And some of them also with some children's comments

(What a yummy food!)

De distintos tamaños

Different sizes

y por supuesto no podían faltar algunos con imágenes de cuentos

and, of course, some of them with stories and tales images

Para despedirme, el de mayor valor sentimental, ya que era de mi hermana mayor. Sí, tiene entonces unos.....bueno, unos cuantos años!

Before saying goodbye, the most sentimental of them as it was from my older sister when she was a baby. Yes, it has ..... well, many years!

Sing a Song of Sixpence

No, no es un post de receta, pero tenía que aparecer la tarta de donde salieron los temibles pájaros negros

No, this is not a recipe post, but I had to show the pie with the blackbirds

Cantar una canción de seis peniques,
Un bolsillo lleno de centeno
Cuatro y veinte mirlos
horneados en una tarta

Cuando abrieron la tarta,
Los pájaros empezaron a cantar
¿No era un plato delicado
digno de ser servido al rey?

El rey estaba en la sala del tesoro
contando su dinero
La reina estaba en el salón
Comiendo pan con miel

La criada estaba en el jardín
colgando la ropa
cuando bajó un mirlo
Y le picoteó la nariz.

Una de las tazas -y los platos de arriba- con la tarta recién horneada y la otra con los terribles pajarracos que ya salieron de ella

One of the teacups -and the plates above- with the baked pie and the other with the terrible blackbirds just flying after coming out from it

Como siempre en estos cuentos tradicionales tan antiguos, circulan distintas interpretaciones, algunas que hablan de la reina simbolizando la luna, el rey el sol y los pájaros negros la cantidad de horas en un día, otras diciendo que los mirlos serían una referencia a los monjes durante el período de disolución de los monasterios por Enrique VIII

As usual in these traditional rhymes there are various interpretations, some speaking about the queen symbolizing the moon, the king the sun, and the blackbirds the number of hours in a day, others who find in the blackbirds an allusion to monks during the period of Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII

es un plato muy antiguo, que tiene un alto borde redondeado y es muy pesado para evitar que el bebé lo pudiera tirar o mover sobre la mesa.

it's a very old plate, that has a high rolled edge and is quite heavy, to keep the baby from flinging it or moving it around the table 

Los dejo por hoy, voy a  autorizar a mi hijo a comer la tarta, ya que me la está  pidiendo desde que la cociné hace un rato, parece que los mirlos no lo asustaron demasiado...

Well, that's all for today, I'll allow my son to eat the pie, as he is asking for it since I baked it a while ago, it seems the blackbirds haven't scared him too much...

Cajas Apiladas.... Stacked Boxes

Desde hace un tiempo tenía ganas de hacer unas cajas apiladas con una sola imagen

For some time I wanted to do some stacked boxes with only one image

y a las que me conocen no les extrañará que haya elegido ilustraciones de un libro infantil

and those who know me won't be surprised to see I chose some vintage children's book illustrations 

compré dos cajas del mismo tamaño de fribrofácil

I bought two wood boxes of the same size

Fotocopié el libro y me dediqué a medir y recortar un buen rato

I made some photocopies from the book and then measure and cut 

Elegí una imagen para cada lado de la caja

I chose one image for each side of the box

y sí, de mi preferida voy a hacer un primer plano

yes, a close up of my favorite

Pensé que era mejor que las cajas quedaran completas al estar destapadas, así que hice dos fotocopias para cada lado, de manera que al estar cerradas se superponga esa parte superior del dibujo

I thought it was a good idea that the boxes look complete when they are uncovered, so I made two photocopies for each side, so when lid is on, the upper part of the copy is overlapped

y también repetí la tapa aunque la de abajo no se verá demasiado mientras estén apiladas

and I also repeat the image of the lid, although the one that is below won't be seen while they are stacked

Acá les muestro la parte de abajo

Here I show you the back side

y las esquinas de las tapas, que terminé con un poco de washi tape para que queden más prolijas

and the lid's corners, with washi tape so they look neater

Sí, el libro es en alemán (no, yo no entiendo el texto, pero sus imágenes me cautivaron desde la primera vez que las ví), su autor es Adolf Host y las ilustraciones fueron hechas por Else Wenz-Viëtor, en 1931

Yes, it's a German book (no, I don't understand the text, but I have loved its illustrations since I saw them for the first time), the author is Adolf Host and the illustrator Else Wenz-Viëtor, in 1931

Por ahora las aproveché para ordenar y guardar algunas cosas

For now I used them to store some things

y pienso que bien podría hacer algunas para regalar, no?

and I think I could make some as little gifts...
