Un Estante para mis Platos Infantiles.... A Shelf for my Children's Plates

Tengo muchos platos infantiles ya y no me resulta fácil encontrarles lugar. Sobre todo porque me encanta tenerlos a la vista y no ocultos en armarios

I already have a lot of children's plates and it's not easy to find place for them. Especially considering that I love having them in sight and not hidden in closets

así que cuando vi esta madera que supongo que fue usada para una cortina en el pasado

so when I found this piece of wood that I guess had been used for a curtain in the past

me pareció que podía servirme para usarla como un estante y poner algunos

I thought it could be turned into a shelf where I could put some of them

sólo la pinté con un poco de pintura que me había sobrado de cuando pinté uno de los cajones del mueble verde de la cocina

I painted it with some green leftover paint from when I painted one of the drawers of the kitchen's cabinet 

sin preocuparme porque la madera no está del todo prolija en algunas partes ya que los muebles de la cocina son bastante rústicos y conservan su pintura original

without worrying because wood was not in good condition as the rest of the furniture in my kitchen is quite rustic with its original paint

Por ahora -todo rota bastante seguido por acá- tiene abajo un mueble donde está la vieja caja de hilos con algunas de mis hueveras

For now -everything changes quite often around here-it is above a cabinet with the old thread's box where some of my egg-cups are shown

Y sí, me piden que enfoque por lo menos a algunas un poco más de cerca, tal vez celosas porque empecé a coleccionarlas antes que los platos y tazas infantiles y se deben sentir un poco postergadas...

Yes, they asked me al least one close up, perhaps jealous because I started to collect them before the children's plates and cups so they must feel a bit neglected ...

Hoy compartimos...Un lugar donde perderse...... A place to get lost

El "Hoy Compartimos" de mayo nos propone "Un lugar donde perderse", y ustedes ya saben cuanto me gustan mis queridas Tazas infantiles


This month "Hoy Compartimos" topic is "A place to get lost" and you already know how much I like my beloved  children's Cups 

Pero también les conté que mis tazas me fueron llevando a los Cuentos, que muchas veces aparecen ilustrados en ellas

But I have also told you that my Cups have taken me to Stories, that often illustrated them

Y los cuentos me fueron llevando a las librerías donde venden libros viejos y antiguos. Sin duda un lugar para perderse...

And traditional tales, stories and rhymes have led me to bookstores that sell old and antique books. Definitely a place to get lost ... 

y revolver con entusiasmo sin que importe ensuciarse o ponerse en cuclillas un largo rato

and stir with excitement regardless dust or squatting for a long time 

por supuesto con especial interés en los libros infantiles

with a special interest in kid's books of course

Pero allí no termina el "perderse". Porque al llegar a casa empieza el meterse en estos tesoros

But the "getting lost" doesn't end there. Because when I arrive home I begin a kind of journey with these treasures

y encontrar dedicatorias cariñosas para Navidad

and find fond Christmas gift inscriptions

School awards

Algunos a los que sus dueños les pusieron su nombre

Some with their ownership signatures

y otros que no

and others without them

Algunos libros de lectura con anotaciones en lápiz negro de una maestra organizando seguramente sus actividades para  un festejo

Some school readers with annotations in black pencil, most probably from a teacher organizing activities for a celebration

(SPRING-  in black pencil: september 21 th)

y otros con rastros de alguien que recién empezaba a manejar los colores

and some of them with scribbles of someone who recently started to handle colors

Y también alguno que guarda un viejo boleto de tranvía

and one that came with a very old tram ticket inside

Por eso, siento que no sólo me pierdo en el argumento del libro sino también en la historia que hay  o que pudo haber detrás de cada uno de ellos

So I feel I not only get lost in the book and its plot but in the story behind it, its past

it's a Louis XV corner chair (any expert there with a different view?) and it's a family heritage

Me encantan sus detalles, tanto trabajo y dedicación en ella

I love its details, so much work and dedication

Pero no les voy a mentir, como habrán visto no es la silla para tirarse relajada a descansar. Pero, la verdad, cuando tengo un rato largo por delante para estar cómoda, no elijo ninguna silla...

But I'm not going to lie, as you have seen this is not the chair to relaxed and rest. But really, when I have some time ahead to be comfortable, I never choose a chair ... 

sino que voy directo a mi cama

I go straight to my bed

Presente y Pasado... Desafío Blad.... Present and Past

El desafío Blad de mayo nos propone mostrar cómo conviven en casa cosas del presente con otras del pasado. Parecía fácil pero se me empezó a complicar. Claro, tengo cosas antiguas, viejas, vintage por todos lados pero, modernas?? Miraba alrededor y lo único moderno que encontraba era algo de tecnología y.. mis hijos! Pero un desafío Blad no se deja pasar así que seguí buscando y algo encontré detrás de la vieja columna que tiene más de 100 años y que quedó así como llegó de la demolición

This month Blad invites us to share how new things live together with old ones at home. It seemed easy at first but then began to complicate. Because I have old, antique and vintage things everywhere but...modern? I could only find some technology and... my offspring! But I continued looking around and found something behind the old beam that has more than 100 years and that we left just as it was found in a demolition. 

Porque hace poco mudamos a la cocina el bar, que es un viejo mueble de herencia familiar

Some time ago we moved the bar into the kitchen. It's and old family heirloom furniture

donde conviven los modernos dispensers de botellas con publicidades de revistas viejas

where the modern bottle dispensers coexist with old ads

que armamos con marcos viejos y nuevos

that we made with new and old frames

también se da la mezcla de lo viejo y lo nuevo entre los accesorios

we can also find the mix of old and new in the accesories 

y atrás de estos modernos utensilios encontraron su lugar los viejos saleros

and behind them, my vintage salt shakers collection found its place

y una vieja estufa de mármol que dejaron en nuestro primer departamento y un banco viejo sirven de apoyo para tanta bebida espirituosa

an old marble mantel from our previous home and an old wood stool are used to put so many bottles 

No puedo dejar el bar sin convidarles un trago, que teniendo en cuenta el tema de hoy no podía ser otro que  un "Old Fashioned" (Pasado de moda), muy tradicional pero que siempre está vigente -sobre todo siendo el preferido del protagonista de Mad Men-

I can't leave the bar without inviting you a drink and, matching with this post which if not an "Old Fashioned"? A very traditional cocktail, the favorite of Mad Men's main character  

y sí, para mí, la más contemporánea e imprescindible Coca light

for me, the contemporary and essential Diet Coke
