Monta un caballo de madera... Ride a cock horse...

Most English nursery rhymes are anonymous and have been argued to have hidden meanings and origins, generally associated with real historical episodes and related to the monarchy

This rhyme refers to a visit of  Queen Elizabeth I of England to Banbury, a city in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, to see a huge cross. The royal carriage broke a wheel and the Queen mounted the horse and rode to the top of the hill.

These are little trays of a children's set with different nursery rhymes illustrations

The trays have a matching tureen

And of course there are matching plates

But I have more children riding wood horses...

Estarán yendo a Banbury también?
Y éstos otros?

Do you think they are going to Banbury too?
And these ones?

Well, in this case there's no doubt, we can also see the milepost

Y esta nena? También irá para allá?

And what about this little girl? Is she going there too?

I don't know if she's going to Banbury but I am sure she appears in many of my plates

Peeping out from the left in these plates above or from the right or up like in these plates below

  6. Hello Silvina,
I adore your china today! These children sets are adorable! I didn't know about this poem being about Queen Victoria, that is so fascinating. The tea cups and plates are so cute and tell the story well, even the little stone mile marker saying 2 mi is there!
    What a wonderful collection : )
