Mi cocina- Desafío Blad ...... My kitchen- Blad Challenge

Living through a big kitchen remodel can be difficult.
But I remember those months as very happy ones

Because while walls were being removed and support beams were built, we enjoyed looking for old pieces of furniture for our new kitchen

When we found this old shop counter we inmediately realized it was a perfect option for us

But this counter had stayed together with a big cupboard for so many years in a grocery, and of course we couldn't separate them, so we brought both of them home

It was a perfect place for my collection of vintage children's dishes

That piece of furniture below the shelves had been in a TV repairing store and I painted it in a similar color to the counter as the wood was not in good condition

The plan was not to buy new cabinets so we bought some shelves in Easy and some corbels and I painted them in white

I love to see all my favorite things at a glance every day

The sinks below the windows

Yes, sink"S", because I wanted those fantastic farm sinks that I have been watching through magazines and blogs

But it's essential for me to wash dishes in a broken up sink into two sections (to each his own theme...!) and as I didn't found one like that.... I came up with two!
(NOTE: farm sinks are not very common here for kitchens)

I wanted subway tile but I couldn't find them so finally I bought some square ones and had them cut in half

This is the table where we always have dinner.
It is an old drawing board.

I didn't imagine it would be used by one of my daughters to draw her architectural plans, so some days we must beg her to leave the table

For this wall, we decided to look for vintage ads in old magazines and we framed them (a DIY project)

But in a hoarder's collector's home, furniture to display things is never enough, so then an apothecary cabinet (you can see it better HERE) and another one from a bakery -close to a family heritage one that I painted in white some years ago- came home

I would continue sharing with you more details, like my pink "Pastalinda" (an old pasta machine)

or some of my egg-cups in the old sewing threads cabinet

o más platos infantiles en las paredes

or more vintage children's dishes on the walls

Voy a pensar qué servir hoy...

but it has been a long post and there are many nice kitchens to visit at BLAD, so let's go to visit them!
I'm going to think what can I cook today...

siempre recordando el mensaje de mi repasador

always remembering my favorite kitchen towel

Tres ratones ciegos.... Three blind mice

Eli is hosting a party and the topic is "Children" and I am going to share a story

but, you know, here there are "Cups and Stories" (the name of my blog) so the storybook comes with a cup of milk and some treats

Today's nursery rhyme is related to mice

"Tres ratones ciegos, tres ratones ciegos

Some historians believe that, like so many nursery rhymes, there is a hidden meaning that refers to the British monarchy. In this case, to Queen Mary I of England as the "farmer's wife" and three Protestant bishops that were in conflict with her.
But others question this version because they argue that this interpretation began after the queen's death.

Truth being said, nothing is clear about its meaning, but it has been told trough the years becoming one of the most popular ones and many years later became the title of an Agatha Christie's book.

Let's go for the cup and the creamer.
Meanwhile I tell you that in several sports which have three referees, "Three Blind Mice" is used as a derogatory phrase for poor referees.

In this Hilda Boswell's version the illustrations are very similar to the ones on these English dishes

los ratones merecen un primer plano

these mice deserve a close up

here another version, by Margaret W. Tarrant, 100 years ago, that really fascinated me since the very first time I got it

I think they look fantastic with those overcoats, but poor them...the one on the right hauling their tales...
Well, let's sweeten this moment

This one seems to be more relaxed, talking with a she-mouse

por suerte no hubo problemas por acá todavía

luckily there were no problems here

Terminando la merienda podemos agregar unos caramelos

Finishing the snack we can share some candies

Exacto! Ratones por supuesto!

Right! Mice of course!

And if anybody wants some more tender mice, look at these ones, a mouse family that decided to adopt a little homeless newborn kitten

But lets not mix stories, we'll leave this for another day

Si quieren ver otro cuentos pueden ir a
If you want to see other stories you can visit

Thank you very much Eli for hosting this party!
I invite you all to Zapallos en almibar to visit some other nice ideas

Hasta pronto!
