Sube y Baja........ See Saw

Some days ago, while I was leaving a comment in Barbara's fantastic blog, March House Books, I realize that, even tough I love animals, elves and fairies that appear on old kid's dishes and storybooks, children's illustrations are definitely my favorites

those children wearing clothes that look so formal nowadays

but, beyond fashion, always have enjoyed fun and games

some of them playing on a see saw

en estos platos ingleses, hondo y playo

on these English flat plate and bowl

And as you already know vintage children's china led me to the nursery rhymes

Sube y baja, Margery Daw,
Jacky tendrá un nuevo patrón;

and I learned that what you call "See Saw" is what we call "Sube y Baja" which means something like "Up and Down"

This is one of my favorite illustrations. First I found the teacup and then in another place this hot water plate, one of those that were used to keep the baby food warm, as I shared  HERE

but no only children enjoy and play on see saw

but also some animals wanted to try, in these English plates that seem to be hand painted

Espero que les haya gustado.
Hasta la próxima!

I hope you liked it.
See you soon!

Besos,

  12. Your plates and books have the most wonderful images of children on them! I've been looking for a few small teacups to add to a small cubby in my kitchen, but I never see any like yours where I shop.

I've been spending time on the see saw with our grandchildren. :)

  20. Dear Silvina, thank you so much for mentioning my blog on your lovely blog – I was surprised and delighted to see my name here!
My mum used to dress me just like the little girl on the round-about, I even wore floppy bows in my hair!
I love the see-saw plates with the duck and rabbit (is it a rabbit or maybe a cat?), the colours are just so pretty. Barbara

  21. Hello Silvina,
I really love this post! I love all the pieces you have shared. The illustrations are amazing in everyone of them.
We really did dress more formal in my childhood (in the 1960s). I used to wear dresses to elementary school most days, until around 1970, then pantsuits were really in. lol!
I enjoy hearing how much pleasure collecting these items gives you.
Thank you so much for sharing with us!
    Hugs,
    Terri
