Los Boo-Boos de Mabel Lucie Attwell.... Mabel Lucie Attwell's Boo-Boos

Este es uno de mis juegos infantiles preferidos.

Por sus motivos y porque es uno de los primeros que tuve, cuando el vicio se empezaba a instalar...

This is one of my favorite children's sets.
Because of its illustrations and because it's one of the first sets I got, when this addiction started...

No sabía en ese momento que eran de la ilustradora inglesa Mabel Lucie Attwell (1879-1964), conocida por sus diseños con niños regordetes, que dicen tuvieron inspiración en su su hija Peggy, quien también se convirtió en artista

I didn't know at that moment that they were from the British illustrator Mabel Lucie Attwell (1879-1964), very well known for her rosy-cheeked toddlers, inspired by her daughter Peggy, who became an artist too

Aquí, con Mr. Ratón y los famosos Boo Boos, como llamó a estos duendecitos vestidos siempre de verde

Here with Mr. Mouse and the famous Boo Boos, as she called these little elves wearing green clothing 

Estos juegos de vajilla infantil fueron usados por miles de niños e inclusive por la realeza inglesa

These nursery ware sets were used by thousands of children an even by the British royalty

Este es el plato hondo

This is the soup bowl

Aunque para que no se le enfríe la sopita al niño tenemos también el plato térmico, con la base metálica que se llenaba de agua caliente (no eran épocas de microondas)

To keep the baby's food warm for as long as possible we also have this plate with a metal base that allows hot water to be poured inside (no microwave in those days)

Por suerte también podemos armar una merienda

Luckily we can also serve a snack

Pero se me está haciendo costumbre acompañar las tazas con cuentos, por suerte acá vemos algo...

But I am getting used to accompany the cups with stories, fortunately here we can see something...

Sí, definitivamente parecen tener algún parentesco, no?

Yes, they definitely seem to have a relationship, don't they?

Se trata del cuento "The eighteen naughty imps" ("Los dieciocho traviesos diablillos"), de la escritora inglesa Enid Blyton e ilustrado por Harmsen Van der Beek, una ilustradora holandesa (NOTA: no podía encontrar el dato del ilustrador en el libro y en sólo unos minutos respondieron mi consulta desde el sitio The Enid Blyton Society, maravilloso! y me pareció una página fantástica)

The story is "The eighteen naughty imps", by British writer Enid Blyton and illustrated by Harmsen Van der Beek , a Dutch illustrator (NOTE: I couldn't find who was the illustrator in the book and only in few minutes they gave me an answer from The Enid Blyton Society, great! and the site is fantastic)     

Sí, parece que se suma otra pieza que llegó un tiempo después. Es una huevera, otra de mis colecciones

Yes, here is another piece that arrived here later. It's an egg cup, another of my collections

No! Ese es otro juego, se merece otro post otro día

No! This is another set, and it deserves its own post in the future

Para las que les gusta la vajilla no quiero olvidarme, el juego de platos y taza es Woods Ivory Ware y la huevera Lawleys Est Phillips 1760 Regents, y el plato térmico con la base metálica es Industria Argentina pero supongo que armado con un plato inglés.

For those who like china I don't want to forget, the plates and cup set is Woods Ivory Ware, the egg cup is Lawleys Est Phillips 1760 Regents, and the plate with the metallic base was made here in Argentina but I think with an English plate.

Qué alegría!...... I am so happy!

No puedo dejar de compartir con ustedes la gran noticia que recibí esta mañana: gané el Desafío Blad de cocinas!!!

Aclaración 2: me enteré de la buena nueva en mi oficina y no mientras barría

Clarification 1: my daughters are much grown up than this little girl

Clarification 2: I read the nice news in my office and not sweeping the floor 

La verdad que ya estaba feliz siendo finalista y me encantó recibir sus comentarios tan cariñosos estos días.
Como les conté, disfruté mucho haciendo mi nueva/vieja cocina y es también un gran placer disfrutarla ahora en familia

I was already happy as a finalist and I have loved reading your sweet comments these days.
As I have told you, I enjoyed a lot remodeling my new/old kitchen and it's a pleasure enjoying with my family now

Aclaración 3: no lucimos tan formales en nuestras comidas

Clarification 3: we don't look so formal when we have dinner

Mi cocina- Desafío Blad ...... My kitchen- Blad Challenge

Vivir mientras se lleva adelante una obra grande para hacer toda la cocina nueva tiene sus incomodidades.

Pero la verdad es que los sigo recordando como unos meses muy lindos

Living through a big kitchen remodel can be difficult.
But I remember those months as very happy ones

Mientras se tiraban paredes y levantaban columnas disfrutábamos la tarea de buscar muebles viejos para armar la nueva cocina

Because while walls were being removed and support beams were built, we enjoyed looking for old pieces of furniture for our new kitchen

Al ver el viejo mostrador de almacén del barrio supimos que nos venía perfecto como mesada y también para guardar cosas en sus estantes

When we found this old shop counter we inmediately realized it was a perfect option for us

Pero el mostrador había estado en el almacén muchos años junto a un mueble vitrina y por supuesto no íbamos a separarlos, así que trajimos los dos

But this counter had stayed together with a big cupboard for so many years in a grocery, and of course we couldn't separate them, so we brought both of them home

Me vino fantástico para poner algunos de mis queridos platos y tazas infantiles

It was a perfect place for my collection of vintage children's dishes

El mueble que está bajo los estantes era de un señor que arreglaba televisores, lo pinté de un color parecido al mostrador, ya que  la madera no estaba nada linda

That piece of furniture below the shelves had been in a TV repairing store and I painted it in a similar color to the counter as the wood was not in good condition

La idea era no comprar ninguna alacena y los estantes los armamos con maderas compradas en Easy y ménsulas de una maderera, pintando todo de blanco

The plan was not to buy new cabinets so we bought some shelves in Easy and some corbels and I painted them in white

Nada más lindo y práctico que tener todo a la vista

I love to see all my favorite things at a glance every day

Las bachas bajo las ventanas que dan al jardín

The sinks below the windows

Sí, son "las" porque quería darme el gusto de esas hermosas bachas de campo que venía viendo en revistas y blogs hacía un tiempo

Yes, sink"S", because I wanted those fantastic farm sinks that I have been watching through magazines and blogs

Pero necesito tener bacha repartida para enjabonar primero todo y después enjuagar (sí, cada uno con su locura) y de loza no había muchos modelos para elegir

But it's essential for me to wash dishes in a broken up sink into two sections (to each his own theme...!) and as I didn't found one like that.... I came up with two!
(NOTE: farm sinks are not very common here for kitchens)

Los azulejos también estaban decididos, iban a ser blancos, los que veía llamaban "de subte" (subway tile). Pero así de sencillos como parecían nadie los vendía, al menos hace un par de años, por eso hice cortar azulejos cuadrados por la mitad.

I wanted subway tile but I couldn't find them so finally I bought some square ones and had them cut in half

Entre el mostrador y la mesa que está contra la pared está la mesa donde comemos siempre.
Es un viejo tablero de dibujo

This is the table where we always have dinner.
It is an old drawing board.

No imaginé en ese momento que le iba a venir tan bien a una de mis hijas para hacer sus planos, por lo que a veces hay que echarla a la hora de cenar

I didn't imagine it would be used by one of my daughters to draw her architectural plans, so some days we must beg her to leave the table

Hacia el otro lado, el sector de la tele y sillones. Y una pared que decidimos llenar de propagandas de revistas antiguas que armamos nosotros mismos con distintos marcos y que ya mostré otro día

For this wall, we decided to look for vintage ads in old magazines and we framed them (a DIY project)

Pero en casa de acumuladores coleccionistas los muebles nunca alcanzan, así que llegaron la vieja vitrina de farmacia (que pueden ver mejor ACÁ) y más atrás, en el rincón, la de panadería, al lado del mueble de  herencia familiar que había pintado de blanco hace unos años

But in a hoarder's collector's home, furniture to display things is never enough, so then an apothecary cabinet (you can see it better HERE) and another one from a bakery -close to a family heritage one that I painted in white some years ago- came home  

Seguiría mostrando más detalles, como mi Pastalinda rosa

I would continue sharing with you more details, like my pink "Pastalinda" (an old pasta machine)


o algunas de mis hueveras en el viejo mueblecito de hilos de mercería (qué comercio me falta?)

or some of my egg-cups in the old sewing threads cabinet 


o más platos infantiles en las paredes

or more vintage children's dishes on the walls


pero el paseo fue largo y hay otras hermosas cocinas para visitar en BLAD, vayamos a visitarlas!
Voy a pensar qué servir hoy...

but it has been a long post and there are many nice kitchens to visit at BLAD, so let's go to visit them!
I'm going to think what can I cook today...
