Cajas Apiladas.... Stacked Boxes

Desde hace un tiempo tenía ganas de hacer unas cajas apiladas con una sola imagen

For some time I wanted to do some stacked boxes with only one image

y a las que me conocen no les extrañará que haya elegido ilustraciones de un libro infantil

and those who know me won't be surprised to see I chose some vintage children's book illustrations 

compré dos cajas del mismo tamaño de fribrofácil

I bought two wood boxes of the same size

Fotocopié el libro y me dediqué a medir y recortar un buen rato

I made some photocopies from the book and then measure and cut 

Elegí una imagen para cada lado de la caja

I chose one image for each side of the box

y sí, de mi preferida voy a hacer un primer plano

yes, a close up of my favorite

Pensé que era mejor que las cajas quedaran completas al estar destapadas, así que hice dos fotocopias para cada lado, de manera que al estar cerradas se superponga esa parte superior del dibujo

I thought it was a good idea that the boxes look complete when they are uncovered, so I made two photocopies for each side, so when lid is on, the upper part of the copy is overlapped

y también repetí la tapa aunque la de abajo no se verá demasiado mientras estén apiladas

and I also repeat the image of the lid, although the one that is below won't be seen while they are stacked

y las esquinas de las tapas, que terminé con un poco de washi tape para que queden más prolijas

and the lid's corners, with washi tape so they look neater

Sí, el libro es en alemán (no, yo no entiendo el texto, pero sus imágenes me cautivaron desde la primera vez que las ví), su autor es Adolf Host y las ilustraciones fueron hechas por Else Wenz-Viëtor, en 1931

Yes, it's a German book (no, I don't understand the text, but I have loved its illustrations since I saw them for the first time), the author is Adolf Host and the illustrator Else Wenz-Viëtor, in 1931

Por ahora las aproveché para ordenar y guardar algunas cosas

For now I used them to store some things

y pienso que bien podría hacer algunas para regalar, no?

and I think I could make some as little gifts...

Hoy compartimos....Algo que creí perdido....Something I thought I had lost

Ya saben que "Hoy compartimos" es un grupo de bloggers que se junta todos los meses para postear un tema en común y desarrollarlo desde su perspectiva, y el de abril es "Algo que creí perdido"

You know that "Hoy compartimos" ("Today we share") gets together once a month to post on a specific topic, from a personal perspective of its own, and April's topic is "Something I thought I had lost"

Como nena -sí, allá lejos!- disfrutaba mucho de mis cuentos y mis libros

When I was a girl -yes, long time ago!- I enjoyed my storybooks a lot 

Varios años después volví a estar cerca de los libros infantiles, pero esta vez ya eran los de mis hijos

Several years later I became close to children's books again, but this time those of my children

las lecturas de las buenas noches...

reading goodnight books...

Y cuando ya esa etapa había terminado, sí, cuando creí perdido mi vínculo con los libros infantiles, entonces llegó mi entusiasmo por la vajilla infantil

And when that stage ended, yes, when I thought I had lost that link with kid's books, my enthusiasm for vintage children's dishes began 

cuyas preciosas ilustraciones muchas veces vienen de los cuentos y rimas tradicionales

with those wonderful illustrations that often come from nursery rhymes and traditional fairy tales

y volvieron a atraparme

and they caught me again

pero esta vez me perdí especialmente con las imágenes

but this time I  was especially hooked on images

y aunque no se entienda bien el idioma, las imágenes siempre se entienden, no?

and although sometimes I don't understand the language perfectly pictures can always be understood, don't you think so? 

Algo más tierno que un niño disfrutando un libro? 

Is there anything cuter than a child enjoying a book? 

Sí, dos niños compartiendo ese placer

Yes, two children sharing the pleasure

Textiles y Texturas... Desafío Blad.... Textiles and Textures.... Blad Challenge

El desafío Blad de abril tiene que ver con Textiles y Texturas y, seguramente por mi amor por la vajilla, pienso en poner una mesa para tomar el té

April Blad's Challenge is about Textiles and Textures and, because of my love for dishes, I decided to set the table for tea

algo informal sobre el viejo mostrador de almacén que hace de barra en mi cocina, y que permite el primer choque de texturas, sobre la madera gastada

something informal, on the old grocery counter -my kitchen island- and the first contrast between this worn wood

con manteles superpuestos y de distinta textura, el de abajo rústico (en realidad un antiguo cubrecama de herencia familiar) y el de arriba delicado, con cinta de raso y bordado

and two tablecloths  of different textures, a rustic one below (actually an old family heirloom bedspread) and above a much more delicate, with satin ribbon and embroidery

con esos bordados a mano de otra época, con tiempo y dedicación para estos detalles que le dan una textura especial

with this hand embroidery showing time and devotion to these details that give it a special texture

Como servilletas, el contraste de la arpillera con unos pañuelos de algodón (de esos que ya no usamos desde que están los de papel)

The napkins with another contrast, burlap and some cloth handkerchiefs (rarely used now since we have paper ones)

Las diferentes texturas no se dan sólo en las telas sino también en la comida

The diversity of texture can not only be found among the fabrics but in food

y en esas hojas de libros viejos y lana  de las que ya imaginamos su tacto con sólo verlos

and in these pages from old books and some wool, we can imagine their touch just watching them
