Hey, Diddle, Diddle...

Mis tazas y platos infantiles me fueron acercando a las rimas tradicionales inglesas

My children's cups and plates led me to nursery rhymes 

HEY, DIDDLE, DIDDLE,

Hey, diddle, diddle, el gato y el violín,

La vaca saltó sobre la luna,

El pequeño perro se echó a reír al ver tal deporte,

mientras el plato se fugó con la cuchara

 Como en muchas rimas tradicionales hay numerosas versiones que hablan de distintos significados secretos, pero nunca se podrá saber con seguridad porque surgieron como tradición oral

Many nursery rhymes are considered to have hidden meanings, but no one is certain because they were originally an oral tradition

Las principales versiones se refieren a la reina Isabel I y a distintos personajes de su corte. Y hasta algunos sostienen que el plato y la cuchara eran dos sirvientes que se enamoraron en secreto y tuvieron que escapar.

Sin embargo, muchos opinan que se trata simplemente de palabras sin sentido representando acciones imposibles de realizar y que resultan divertidas para la imaginación los chicos

One of the most popular explanations refers to Queen Elizabeth I of England and diferent members of the court. And even some argue that the dish and the spoon represented two servants that fell in love and secretly ran away from the court.

However, most people think that they are simple nonsense words about impossible actions that are amusing for children's imagination

Cuando les mostré "Había una vez una anciana que vivía en un zapato" vimos que sobre el costado izquierdo de los platos aparecían varios de estos cuentos tradicionales

When I shared "There was an old woman who lived in a shoe" with you, we noticed that on the left side of the plates there were many illustrations from different stories

Y si bien los gatos, vacas y perros varían un poco en cada uno de ellos, lo que más me divierte es ver las distintas versiones del plato escapando con la cuchara

And, while cats and dogs have little differences in each version, what I enjoy most is looking to this cute couple of dish and spoon

Y miren lo que encontré en un viejo libro de cuentos en francés

No es exacto el texto pero sí aparecen todos los personajes. Parece que acá la vaca y el gato tienen nombre y todo

See what i have found in an old french storybook.
The text is not the same but there they are, all the same characters. It seems that the cow and the cat even have their own name here

Otro mueble verde viejo.... Shabby green furniture

Se fue dando así. Sin definirlo antes. Sin un plan previo.
Nuestra nueva-vieja cocina se fue llenando de muebles verde viejo.
Una de las ideas definidas en la reforma era no poner alacenas y sí muebles antiguos. Y así apareció el mostrador que había estado tantos años en un almacén

It just happened. Without defining it before. Without a prior plan.
Our new-old kitchen have been filled with old green furniture.
One of the ideas set out in the reform was not to put cabinets but old pieces of furniture. And so came the counter who had been many years in a grocery

Y, ya que estábamos, trajimos también un mueble vitrina que había estado en el mismo negocio, y que enseguida se fue llenando con mis tazas y platos infantiles

And we also took a cabinet that was in the same shop with us, and soon began filling it with some of my children's cups and dishes

En un primer momento pensamos en sacarles la pintura, o pintarlos de blanco pero enseguida nos decidimos por dejarlos como estaban, y con esas marcas del paso del tiempo

First, we thought of the idea of strip paint or paint them white, but quickly decided to leave them as they were, with the original aged paint

Un poco después apareció la vitrina de farmacia. Era una buena idea para poder seguir poniendo mis tesoros, y además....también era verde! Si la quieren ver un poco mejor vean acá

A few months later we found the apothecary cabinet. It was a good option for me to continue placing my treasures, and....it was green too! If you want more details go here

No es el tono exacto de los muebles anteriores, que son de un verde más grisáceo, pero no nos preocupa nada

It's not the exact color of the others, that are a bit gray-green, but it doesn't concern us 

Siempre es bueno conseguir otro mueble cuando uno sigue juntando cosas sin poder frenarse.

Y parece que estos verdes se usaban mucho hace unos cuantos años.

Ya teníamos almacén, farmacia...éste parece que estuvo en una panadería

It's always a good idea to get more pieces of furniture when you continue collecting things.

And it seems these "greens" were in fashion many years ago.

We already have grocery, apothecary...and I think this one was in a bakery

Lo imagino lleno de ricas facturas en estos estantes inclinados

I imagine it full of tasty croissants on these inclined shelves

Acaba de llegar a casa y por supuesto ya me pongo a llenarlo de cosas y en unos días les muestro cómo quedó.

Pero les dije al empezar que la cocina se estaba llenando de verde y no puedo dejar de mostrarles algo más. El color es casi igual. Sospechan algo?

No creo que adivinen...

It has just arrived home and I will soon begin filling it, I will show it to you when it is ready.

But I have told you that my kitchen has a lot of green and I can not leave without sharing one more thing. It's the same color. Can you guess what it is?

I don't think so...

Necesitaba alguna manera de contener a la nueva mascota cuando la dejamos sola para que no destruya todo

I was needing a solution to leave my little puppy alone 

Y qué mejor que MI viejo corralito de madera? Sí, en el que me ponían a mí cuando era bebé, con alguna adaptación ahora porque se escapaba entre los barrotes. También verde, por supuesto, será que estoy tan antigua??

Es así, hasta Coca tiene un corralito shabby!

Is there anything better than MY old baby fence? Yes, the one I used when I was a baby, with some modification as it was escaping through the bars. It is also green, does it mean I am vintage too?

La verdad es que el living no es un ambiente que usemos demasiado, sobre todo desde que tenemos nuestra nueva-vieja cocina. Pero ése es el desafío Blad de junio y....no nos quedaremos atrás!

The truth is that we don't use the living-room so much, specially since we have our new-vintage kitchen. But this is Blad's June Challenge and.....here we are!

La mayoría de los muebles son herencia familiar, como el baúl con el que vino el abuelo de España

 Most furniture is family heritage, as the grandfather's trunk, the one he brought when he came from Spain 

El cuadro, pintado por una de mis hijas. Un par de tacitas infantiles, imposible que no aparezcan...

Sí, tuvimos nuestro entusiasmo hace un tiempo por las mamushkas

Yes, we were enthusiastic about matrioshka dolls some years ago 

Y hablando de entusiasmos, cuántos libros lindos para tentarse...

And talking about enthusiastics, how many books to be tempted...

Y no sólo los nuevos me tientan, muchas ya conocen mi debilidad por los antiguos libros infantiles

And not only new books are a temptation, many of you know my weakness for vintage storybooks

Tener a la vista las imágenes de las tapas ya es un placer

It's a pleasure watching at their book covers

Hacia el lado del comedor está el bar

Yo sólo tomo gaseosa light todo el día pero no todos son abstemios en esta casa

I drink only light soda all day but we are not all teetotalers at home 

No, no tengo sponsor ni canje, son las preferencias del dueño del bar.

Bueno, la recorrida fue larga y ya que terminamos en la barra bien se merecen que los invite con un trago

No, I don't have sponsors, it's just the owner of the bar's favourites.
